Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the fundamental element of all forms of life on Mother Earth. Nature and biodiversity allows us on a daily basis indispensible services that we often take for granted such as clean water, fresh air and multiple floral and faunal species. Since these ecological services are often taken for granted, it is hard to place a value on them, which means that they are often set aside by governments and industries when decisions to develop are made.

On the other hand, First Nations live and depend from this biodiversity, especially on resources such as forest and water for hunting, fishing, trapping, gathering, crafts and heating. This special bond with Mother Earth also ensured that First Nations helped protect this biodiversity on their territory. This intrinsic bond must continue to exist and First Nations must be guardians and protectors of this biodiversity that is threatened more and more every day.

The FNQLSDI has the mandate to preserve and improve all aspects linked to biodiversity of Quebec and Labrador by using all the tools available to them. For example, this can be done by creating partnerships with other organizations or by using tools to raise awareness.
